Last day of the month

Hi, well time flies also in October! The last day of the month again.

As there was no kit we picked our own favorites out of the shop and this is mine:

Lots of Teresa Collins and Fancy Pants

And here's what I came up with,

A cookie jar, first (after eating all the cookies!) I painted it with a thin layer of Gesso then glued the Teresa Collins paper to it with Modge Podge. Sprayed it with a little red Glimmer Mist and made, before glueing, holes and put some music paper behind it.

I added a saying from Teresa Collins and a crochetted flower, Glitz pearls on the bottem.

My next layout is totally layered

Don't you just love the edge with the Daisy D's rub-on roller?

Altered Canvas Project

Here's my step by step to make an altered canvas like this one:

First, rip and adhere random pieces of patterned papers on the canvas... you can leave some blanks too...
Using a card, apply a little bit of gesso all over it to soften the colors...

Find some stencils, or like me a map and a glass, to draw some designs over the background... I used a gray pencil...

I diluated some blue alcohol ink with water to color the inside of my circles and french map in light blue...

I cut the cute old family picture, and adhered it in the corner inside France...
:)

And I finally coloured the white chipboard letter with different alcohol inks and water (for a watercolor effect)

Hi Treasured girls, enjoying your sunday? Being creative or spending time with family. I did both today. Made some lovely things with the products I got out of the store. And we've played a boardgame with the kids.

I will show you my pics out of the store in a few days together with my new layouts.

Now I want to share with you my sketch and layout of the 1st reveal.

For this layout I used lots of Prima, papers, butterflies and flowers. The pearls are Zva creative, alpha MME, the acrylic square is Tim Holtz and the fabric heart is made by my mum.

Inspired by- Berta!!

I first noticed Berta's wonderful creations a few months ago and have not been dissapointed when she uploads something new to the gallery. I love her style and the fact that she scraps 8 1/2 by 11 pages! She has inspired me to want to scrap that size too! Since I have been so inspired by her work I thought I would inspire you too by posting some of her work on the blog.

Here's a little bit more about here and some of my favorite projects by her-

1. When did you start scrapbooking?

I've been scrapping since I was a teenager. I started this kind of scrapbooking in 2004 when my DIL introduced me to it. She worked at a LSS and invited me to a weekend 'scrapcamp'. Been hooked ever since.

2. What is the subject of most of your layouts?
Kids and grandkids inspire me the most. But I love to scrap almost anything from weather to the great outdoors.

3. What is your favorite manufacturer?
Right now my new fave is Echo Park. I was so sad to see Scenic Route go out of business. I still have a ton of their papers that I stocked up on when I first heard the news.

4. What are your favorite products to scrap with?
I go crazy with paper. I love to do fussy cutting so I like papers with big patterns. Flowers and butterflies are my favorite embellies.

5. What are three random facts about you?
*I'm a wife to 1, a mom to 5, and a grandma to 7.

*As of Sept. 30 I am 5 years breast cancer free...yay me!!!

*Scrapbooking is my favorite thing to do and cooking is my least favorite.

October Card Kit Sneak

Hi everyone, Elisabeth here with a few sneaks of this month's card kit. Effortless and versatile, that's how I would describe this month's kit. TS's kits are so easy to design with and this month was no exception. I just love the different looks I was able to achieve with this kit!

April kit in September

Hi, Today I want to show you the wonderful April kit. As you might know we do a looking back month, there are so many great kits still left in the shop! Do check them out!!

So, the April kit.... it's packed with wonderful colored papers, I also used the add on that has a Maya Road mini album.

For first reveal I made this sketch, you can also find it in the gallery next to the other sketches by the DT. They are awsome!

I used the April kit to create this layout with a photo of our cat. Her name is Smoes.

I used a punch to cut out the circles. The label is by Tim Holtz.

Then my second layout is one with a twist.

I used two of the Maya road mini album and glued that to the layout

The Gorgeous September Kit!!!

What an amazing card kit Erin put together this month! The card kit is just simply gorgeous! I love each and every creation I made with it!

And I saved my favorite for last! I made the little hanger from 22 gauge craft wire and the clothes line from twine. Isn't the little dress adorable? I traced the dress form onto patterned paper, cut out and then added the ribbon and lace!

My September Challenge...

Happy September!! I love fall and am loving the cooler weather even more! I love when it is cool enough to turn on my oven and bake lots of fall desserts. I make lots of apple pies and freeze them so I have enough all winter long. I also make scones, cobblers, cookies and lots more!

So in honor of fall and my love of baking fall desserts, I have a recipe challenge for you this month. Here is your recipe:

Big News for Treasured Scrapbooking

I have some exciting news to share. We just recently found out that we are expecting our fourth child! We are excited, surprised, nervous, and everything else, as you can imagine!

This means some big changes for us, lots of things to figure out, that is for sure.

One of the more difficult decisions I've had to make is what to give up right now. I can't do everything, and this is shaping up to be an all day sickness pregnancy so far. I am not giving up time with my family and I'm not giving up school, so the only thing left for me to give up is, unfortunately, Treasured Scrapbooking.

I'm not closing the store, but I am looking for someone to buy it. I will keep it up and going until that point if I can.

If you are at all interested in the details behind purchasing the store, please email me directly at flutterinby@peak.org.

The other bit of news is that I will be discontinuing the main monthly kit. The monthly card kit will continue. If you are currently a main kit subscriber I will be doing some custom kits, just a smaller release.

You might wonder what that means for our DT, no fear, they will be continuing on using some custom kits that I put together from the store to highlight the fabulous products we have already in stock.

I thank you for understanding the changes we are going through here personally, and I look forward to finding a new owner for the store so this fabulous place can continue on! It's a mix of emotions for me, I haven't had the store that long, but I've loved TS since my first day here, over three years ago. I want to make sure that it can continue, but as I'm sure you all understand, my family comes first, and we are about to expand. LOL.

mini album and layouts August kit

Hi all,

Last day of the month it is again..... time flies when you're scrappin, right?

Have you checked out (and ordered) the August kit yet? It's such a fun kit to work with. And there is so much stuff in it. Lots of paper, all double sided. As you have seen in my last post I made a layout with it, now I've made a mini album and two more layouts and I'm still not run out of paper! Is that a great kit or what?!?

Let me start with my mini album.

Totally made out of tags, cut out of thin cardboard, then I glued some papers to both sides.

For the first and last page I had some acrylic sheet laying around (Hambly's) that's also easy to cut into shape.
Sprayed both with Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard. Let that dry over night.

I made a collage of the pages cause otherwise this would be a very very long post!

This is the last page on the inside, a journaling about a wonderful day that my parents, my kids and I spent in the city were my dad, my kids and I were born.

The next thing I want to show you is my layout, started with white Bazzil cardstock, Glimmer Mist and Tim Holtz' masks.

Yep, that's a photo of me!

The roses are from the Prima paper, cut out and I used some glaze on it to make it shine.

Don't you just love this butterfly? It's cut out of the Hambly paper, misted with Glimmer Mist and I used Stickles around the edges. A smaller butterfly I attached on the wing.

My second layout started with making a piece of paper wet and started crunching it.
It looked a bit like a candy wrapping so there you've had the title!!!

Here also some misting with Shimmerz Spritz (bed of roses, my fav!)

My mum made the doily. Isn't it sweet (and so is she, thanks mum!)

Scraproom Storage Solutions

I absolutely LOVE organizing and finding decorative

storage solutions, especially for my scraproom. My

favorite thing is to shop garage sales and thrift stores

to repurpose and item that will bring beauty and

organization to this sometimes very messy and

chaotic hobby that scrapbooking can be!! Here are

a few of my cleaned up, repainted, and repurposed

finds that I've included in my scrap space.

this thrifted wire basket hold my mini albums

these baskets found at garage sales hold my cards

thrifted shelf hold stamps and $2 curtain rod holds

my spools of ribbon

this wooden shelf and vintage picnic basket both

found at garage sales hold my felt and fabric collection

basket on top also found at a garage sale hold part of

my ribbon collection

I hope that this may help you to come up with

some ideas to get those rooms organized...if you're

like me, it's always an ongoing process so I'm never

quite finished with the decorating and organizing.

August sketch

Hi everyone and welcome to another blogpost by yours truly, Mieke.

Today I want to share with you my sketch that I made for the August kit reveal on Aug. 15th. This kit is so much fun, it has the most wonderful colors in there. Lots of different manufactors, a lot to choose from.

Don't you think that little bird house is so cute?!

I like to do my sketches by hand, simply on 12x12 white cardstock

I was playing around with a mask and some Shimmerz Spritz and this is how it turned out:

That sketch turned into this layout:

Our daughter can still smile as bright, I love this photo of her.

Used lots of spays, strips of paper and I cut out a strip of the Hambly screen and glued that on with Rangers Glossy Accents. The butterflies are from a Spellbinders die, used my Cuttlebug for that. The orange strip under the photo is a piece of the soft ribbon in the kit.

The mask is by Tim Holtz, alpha is stamped.

Pack 'Em On Challenge

I have decided that my DT challenge for August will

be to pack on those photos!!! I am challenging you to

use at least four photos on a single page layout.

Many times we use only one or two photos on a page,

and that's perfectly fine, but I wanted to use more of

the photos that I take and if you're like me then there

are about twenty photos taken every time you pick up

the camera. I wanted to get out of the habit of just

chosing the two best photos and use more of them to

help convey more of the story. So get out that entire

stack of pictures and Pack 'Em On!!!!

Here are two examples of using for or more photos

on a single page to help get your juices flowing.

'Crazy 4 Silly Bandz' was created using the

Treasured Scrapbooking August kit.

The Treasured Hunt

Its time for the biggest contest of the year....The Treasured Hunt!!!

The Treasured Hunt 2010 Eligibility Round starts now and ends August 20th. Share your best/most favorite layout in the eligibility section of the Gallery at Treasured Scrapbooking and tell all your friends! There will even be a prize for the person who brings the most friends, how cool is that?

This will be a six week contest. To enter, upload your very best layout into the Treasured Hunt gallery-Eligibility Entries category by August 20th. The Design Team will vote and the top 25 entries will move on to compete in the contest. Each week you will get a new challenge and each week the Design Team will vote their top choices to move on to the next week.

Pages will be judged on photography, creativity, originality, relativity to challenge theme and overall design. Winners for each round will be determined by the Design Team and myself (Erin).

Please pay close attention to the requirements of each challenge! Ask questions if you need clarification! Any deviation from the challenge requirements listed will result in disqualification. This is only to be fair to those who follow all of the requirements. We ask that all entries be posted only to the Treasured Scrapbooking gallery until the end of the contest or elimination. Exception: layouts may be posted on your personal blog.

A new challenge

Every month the design team member over here at treasured post a challenge. This month Mette’s challenge struck a chord with me so I was super excited to participate. Her challenge is to scrap with a non human subject. I have had a picture that I’ve been wanting to scrap since my son’s first day of school last September…and this provided me the perfect opportunity.
I wanted to keep this layout simple as the subject and the idea behind it is simplistic. I came home after dropping my little guy off at kindergarten for the very first time…and there sitting at his spot at the table were his tea cup and his toy…so the journaling is all about how big that little toy felt with my sons new absence. Something so small, was so overwhelming…because of the idea behind it. For me the toy was a symbol…a picture in time of a very significant moment in our family life. And the elephant transparency just went perfectly with my concept for this layout. Yay for the treasured kits!
So anyhow…this was just a little piece of me that I wanted to share with all of you…thanks for looking:)

Hello everone, Liz here. Can you believe its August already? Where has the time gone?? One of my kids already started school for the year. Crazy!

Every month the DT here at Treasured Scrapbooking creates a sketch and LO to go with it. Here's one that I made and I used the new August kit for my supplies.

August inspiration challenge

Lately I received this magazine, with an article titling: "The Creativity Crisis: research shows that american creativity is declining" (What went wrong and how we can fix it...)
As an european, that made me laugh but I didn't feel like reading the article, as I know it's not true!! I mean: just take a look at our gallery!!

I still liked their pictures and felt inspired... Here's the magazine:

So the challenge is: Try to be inspired by the cover (or article)
It can be the layout, the colors, ...

One coffee please!

Last day of the month it is.... time flies when you're having fun!

This first month on the DT has been good for me.

Erin, Julie and Noeleen... thank you for your guidance. It could not have been such a great month without you girls!

Also my fellow DT member, thank you for a wonderful and fun month! Let's rock the message board with our new challenges!

Now I do have a technique to show you, get yourself a nice cup of coffee and don't throw away the left over, just rub it over your paper for some good distressing!For this layout I started with tearing strips of paper and glued that to a piece of cardstock, then I rubbed the coffee left over, over the papers and there you go... one good smelling distressed page. Leave it dry overnight.

Here's how it turned out:

This is a really old photo, which I scanned and printed.
I believe it's the only photo from my great great (great) grandmother.

See the wooden shoes? I think she's doing laundry here. What a life.......

Another thing I would like to share with you is to recycle your package.

Some manufactors have wonderful things like this tag from Kaisercraft.

Prima is also a good one to use the package. So take a good look before putting it in the bin!

These layouts were made, ofcourse, with the July kit.

Faux Stitching Tutorial

Now, here is my super fast and in a hurry way to faux stitch on any of your projects. I know that

there are tons of different ways to accomplish the look of stitching without actually having to break out the sewing machine, and I just wanted to share with you my technique that takes literally only a few seconds to add a short strip of stitching to your layout, card, or project.Within minutes you could even add an entire stitched border or more, the possibilities are endless!

Step #1. Add dots with a pointed tipped thick marker (my favorite for doing this are the medium sized Sharpies) to look like the holes that would be punched by the sewing machine needle.

Step #2. Use a thin tipped marker (my favorite is the thin end on a ZigWriter from EK) to draw a line over the dots acting as the thread.

And it's easy as that!! The great thing about this is that you can stitch in tons of colors without ever having to change out thread and there are so many shapes and designs that you could use!!

I hope you all give this a try, I'm completely hooked!

The July Card Kit

You can create so much from it! I made four cards and layout, plus Elisabeth did the same. You could easily make both our projects and still have materials left to make more goodies.

Mieke's challenge and sketch

Hi all,

well, this has been a fun month for me.

Joining the TS DT this July was so good! It's been so much fun so far.

First I'll show you sneak peaks of the second July kit reveal first this saturday. I have been scrapping during my vacation and that was so much fun!

My challenge for this month is PAINT! You know I love my paints, in any possible way so that had to be my first challenge on the message board. Instead of the Distress Inks that I usually work my edges with, I used lots of paint, also on the photo.

The MM paint was so right for this Crate paper.

Even the flowers are painted with the MM colors

And this cute heart and arrow, by Maya Road, painted with MM and finished with Glossy Accents

The next thing I had to do for the DT was making a sketch.... oh dear... this is my first.....

Well…guess what don’t just flip through magazines, flip through the treasured gallery! There are so many layouts, cards and altered items to inspire you for a life time. Hello everyone! I was so thrilled when I opened up my Treasured Scrapbooking July kit,

so full of yummy vintage looking papers and pearls, flowers, tags, and buttons galore!

I just wanted to share with you two of my layouts that I created with this July kit.

This first layout contains photos of our town's 4th of July parade and was chosen as the

Week #9 traditional scrapbook layout winner for the Examiner.com in their scrapbooking

section. The second layout contains a photo of our newly adopted lab, Franklin, that we love

dearly. You just have to love the versatility of all the products in this TS July kit, the posibilities

Card Kit sneak peek

Hello all, Elisabeth here. With CHA right around the corner, tiss the season for sneak peeks. In the spirit of sharing, I thought I'd post a few snippets of the upcoming card kit for July. I think my favorite thing about this month's kit was how versatile it was. From Simple CAS cards, distressed and grungy, shabby chic to bold and geometric, you can do it all with this one kit!

Hello everyone! Sarah E here with my very first post for Treasured Scrapbooking!!! I have been hanging out on the TS board on and off for a few years now and I am sooooo excited to be a part of this team!!! For my very first challenge I decided to keep it simple so everyone would feel like they can participate. I chose to do a technique that I personally love - fussy cutting! It is my favorite way to embellish pages, cards and other projects cheaply and quickly. Plus the embellies always match the paper since you cut it right out from there. You have to love that!!

I chose this paper from the Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker Willow Bee collection:

I used two sizes- a 12x12 sheet and 6x6 sheet. I cut flowers out from both sheets and layered them on my card with foam tape.

For this challenge cut out something big, something small, something fancy or something plain. It's up to you!! Upload your finished cards to the TS gallery and link in this POST for a chance to win a $5.00 gift card to the TS store!!

Design Team for the July to Dec 2010 term has been announced!

The new Design team for the next term was chosen and announced a few days ago on the board:

The new Design Team is going to have some exciting changes! First of all, I had an amazing amount of international applicants, so I've decided to create an International Design Team! They are really just part of the regular design team, but it's sometimes fun to capitalize things. You'll notice that some of the reveal dates will change a little, but other than that, things will mostly remain the same.

I've also added a second card designer! Now the card kits will come with instructions for four cards total, and also have a couple of examples of layouts and other projects done with the card kit! I am super excited about this, because I know that there are plenty of leftovers each month to come up with other things to make!

I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who applied, I know how difficult it is to put yourself out there, and I was so inspired by everyone's work! I am so proud to call you all my scrappy buddies!

I would also like to thank the amazing Design Team I've had this past term, you guys were great through the huge learning curve I've dealt with as a new store owner who was pretty much clueless and a lot of the time and busy the rest of the time! LOL. Thank you so much for all your hard work and friendship!

But, without further ado and sappiness, I know you want to know who made the team!

Handmade Cork Embellishments

Good morning scrappers!!

From the time I saw the new Pink Paislee cork embellishments, I knew I wanted to figure out how to make my own. I was perusing some store - I cannot remember where - and I ran across a roll of cork contact paper. I knew I was going to use it for scrapping one day. I think it might have been at Target or Walgreens. Anyway...I received some new punched the other week and thought - now is the time to figure out how to incorporate that cork!

I pulled out my new punches and the cork and got busy. It was tricky loading the cork sheet in the punch, but I found going slowly allowed the cork to wiggle into the punch.

After punching out the shape, I used some buttons and bling to dress them up!

Taking it one step further...I stamped on the cork, cut it out, colored a little with my Copics and added the bling!

June Challenges!

Every month the treasured design team comes up with new challenges. Then at the end of the month winners are picked and goodies are mailed out.

This month my challenge is “alphlicious.”
So get your alphas out and turn them into some thing “licious”. Do something to them…draw on them, color them, cut them out, “stickle” them. You name it! If you can think of it, you can do it. this month, for the word “sisterly” I took the 7 gypsies rub-on alphas, put them on colored paper, cut out and the stickled them. For the word “love” I applied it to the patterned paper and the added diamond glaze. So go crazy with your alphas this month and show us what you come up with. Try something new or share a tried and tested technique…we want to see it:)

Cute & Easy Box Tutorial

Treasured Scrapbooking was the first message board I ever belonged to. It was also where I participated in my first Cyber Crop. At my very first TS Online Crop (had to be close to 4 years ago!) one of the DT members shared a pattern and instructions for creating an adorable little treat box.

It was such an easy project, and the results were so fabulous, that I kept the pattern and instructions, and use this box as a "go to" for gift cards, small gifts and candy! This box would also make fabulous "favors" for bridal or baby showers.

Here is the pattern and instruction sheet (right click and save to your computer, then print full size onto 8 1/2 X 11 paper):

The fountain of youth

Why do we scrap? Well i suppose everyone does it for different reasons…because we love to craft in some form…because we love to create…because we love to express ourselves. I think those cover some of the surface reason as to why we spend hours cutting and pasting and glittering and “stickering”…For me though it’s about more than that. It’s about holding onto all those things throughout the day that slip through our fingers…and as they do we say “I never want to forget this.” I know that with children (and four of them I might add) those precious moments happen more times a day than I can count…but if I can occasionally get one of them on the page it feels like such an accomplishment. Scrapbooking is a way of sharing all the things that I treasure and consider important with the rest of the world. I may not be able to write a book about all the things I consider life to be about, but I can scrap a book filled with love, emotion and passion to share with generations. This brings me to my next point… I believe that so many of us love to scrap because…now this may sound kind of crazy at first…but I believe that scrapbooking is like a fountain of youth. On our pages…when we preserve all of those precious memories and feelings…we are saving a huge piece of ourselves. In essence we are preserving who we are to ourselves and to those around us on this 12 x 12 piece of paper. And guess what? Long after we are gone…there is a record of us. A record of what we believe in…who we love…who we are and who we will always be. And as we are looking back on that memory, that page that we have created…we can be there again…if only for a moment.

Here are a few of those precious memories that I would like to share with you.

Sometimes if we remind ourselves why we love this hobby so much…we are filled with inspiration. So I hope you have a wonderfully creative day :)

Enhancing your die cut flowers

In the gorgeous May kit this month was a sheet of American Craft paper from the dear Lizzy line I fell in love with. There are oodles of cute flowers begging to be cut out. There are lovely on their own, but I decided to dress mine up with some thread and stickles. This takes about 5 minutes and its super easy.

What you will need:

Scissors

Flowers cut from AC dear Lizzy paper

Stickles

Paint Brush

Tape

Threaded Needle

Cut your flower from the AC dear Lizzy paper

1. With your needle, poke a hole at the bottom edge of one of the little circles.

2. Turn over flower (backside) and thread your needle through the hole, leaving a little tail on the back.

3. Tape down the tail and turn flower back over (front side)

4. Leaving a 1/16 space, thread needle to the back of the flower, being careful not to pull the thread tight leaving a little loop on the top of the flower

(click photo to view larger)

5. Keep repeating until your flower is filled with as many little loops as you like. Trim thread and secure to the back with tape.

6. With your paintbrush in hand, squeeze a line of stickles on the end of the paintbrush

7. Paint the stickles all over your flower, the loops take the stickles well too, so be generous with this step.

8. Allow stickles to dry, shape leaves and flowers if you’d like, and you have a pretty dressed up flower.

You can use these same techniques to enhance your journal die cuts too.

Looking over my first month as a design team member for treasured scrapbooking…I am overjoyed to have been welcomed into the family. What a friendly, kind, enthusiastic and encouraging group of ladies we have here. I am honored to be a part of this team. I think Erin puts together the most beautiful kits. When I received the April kit in the mail I thought “wow…this is perfect for me!” then when I saw what everyone else had done with the kit I realized it was perfect for them too. Erin picks wonderful, quality products that are just right for everyone. She has a great eye for everything scrapbooking/card making related. And I am happy that she chose me for the team.
So here is another thank you to all of the existing design team members, treasured community and of course Erin…

This month's Treasured Member is Gloria Johnston! I love Gloria's humor and enthusiasm and her sweet caring nature. I asked her to write a blog post for this month, and here is what she did for us!

First I would like to thank Erin and all the girls for allowing me to be the first Treasured Member of Treasuredscrapbooking. This was such an honor and a total thrill for me. TS is my home away from home and I appreciate all the support and love and inspiration from each and everyone of the wonderful people here.

Erin asked me if I would like to do something for the blog and I was not sure what I could contribute. Most of what I do in scrapbooking is learned from you girls. lol That left me in a ponder as to what I could post that you could learn from me. lol Well after lots of thinking I decided that what I could contribute to the blog is to tell about the wonderful people here. Then the problem was wow there is so many people that are so wonderful there is just too many to post about and it would be way to much reading. lol cause ya know I can talk a book.

The one person that has just inspired me in so many ways is Mrs. Relda Statz aka Scrappin Granny!!!!

What a wonderful women she is too. I am in awh of her for so many reasons. Mrs. Relda has been married for 57 years and wow that alone has to tell you what an amazing person she is. Everytime I log onto TS I look forward to hearing her wonderful stories. As a child growing up I used to love to hear my Grandmommy tell her tales and Mrs. Relda's stories bring me back to sitting on my Grandmommy's lap listening to the stories of her life. Up until this week we only knew Mrs. Relda by her stories and wonderful posts in the forum. This week she learned how to post to the Gallery with the help of our wonderful Erin. Now we are going to be able to see her stories through her wonderful Lo's. Mrs. Relda just brings to life what scrapbooking is really all about.

Great stories, the ability to share these stories through inspiring lo's, and to make wonderful friends along the way.

So if you just happend by this blog or if you are already a member of TS, please stop in and let Mrs. Relda know how much we love her. The lo below is just one that I think wraps up everything Mrs. Relda is all about. Love, commitment, and friendship.God bless you Mrs. Relda and thank you for being a part of our lives.

Using that ribbon

Good day y'all.

Last night I was looking at my ribbon rack and noticed I had yards of the really thin ribbon, you know the kind.. the 1/8" wide stuff you can buy at your local Michael's or Joannes. I bought it several years ago when I first started to scrapbook.. and it's pretty much been untouched since then. Now that I know my style of scrapbooking (lumpy and bumpy) it doesn't sit well with me to just adhere a flat piece of ribbon down. There's no ooomph to it. So, I decided to braid it.

Start off with 3 pieces about 14" long. (or however long you wish it to be)

Grab all three pieces of ribbon, and tie a knot.

After I tied a knot, I used a piece of scotch tape to adhere my knot to my desk

(the ribbon taped to the ruler didn't work out so well, it kept moving.. lol)

Then braid.

Once you get to the end, just put another knot to keep the braids from coming undone.
I then adhered this strand to a card we'll be sending to the children's papaw in Ky.

I just love the bit of texture and visual interest this adds.

This fabulous bee paper came in the April TS kit.

I know I am long winded... but one more cool tip, and this one is my favorite.
If you do not like braiding... try using your crochet hook. In the photos, I was using a G hook.

Start by creating a slip knot with one strand of ribbon.

Then just chain stitch. (this link takes you to a video)

Both methods are really quick and easy... you can do it in front of the tv at night.

Early sneak peeky with Leah

I'm so excited about the reveal coming up on the 15th.

Want a peek at what I've created?

I used the Helmar's textured effects on the photograph using a Wendy's take out knife to spread it across the photo. I love the texture it created, and it is so easy to use.

Using the Helmar 450, I was able to coil the ribbon from the April kit as the flowers center piece.. isn't that pretty?

This is a peek from the add on.

The April Royal Romp kit was a dream to work with. Everything coordinates so nicely together, especially with April's add on. There are only TWO add ons left, and just a handful of the April kits... I would hurry to the store and pick yours up before it their gone.

April Challenges

Shape Collage and the April kit

I have created a video how to of how quick it is to create your own personal photo collage to enhance your Treasured scrapbook pages. You know this kit evokes happy thoughts from me? That's right it does! I was so excited
to use the theme sunshine taking from the sun and papers of this kit that I couldn't wait to scrap my two most favorite people in the world!!!!

I think this layout is adorable and the elements on the paper along with the great photos of Dayv and Alyssa make me smile! I am truly blessed!

I have not put the pictures in yet as I see a fun day planned when it warms up in Florida and my little Jamie jumping through the sprinkler. I misted the covers and highlighted the designs with Stickles. I covered each page with the cool Coredanations cardstock. I embossed each piece of cardstock and rough sanded it to bring the designs forward. The I turned to my punches for additional detailing. Hello everyone! I wanted to show you a couple of things I made using the wonderful March kit!
This kit was HUGE and CHALK FULL of GOODIES!!!
It reminded me so much of spring as we head in that direction hopefully soon!

I took from the kit the really springy elements and made these cards!

Book Review! Delight in the Details by Lisa Pace

Happy Sunday!!
I recently received Lisa Pace's new book in the mail. I was a little giddy - I admit it. I have followed Lisa's blog for a long time. I adore her style. My question - could the book live up to my expectations? Answer: You bet!!

Lisa's shabby vintage style is reflected throughout the book. Besides all the eye candy - Lisa has done an incredible job of detailing her techniques for creating beautiful pieces of art. The book details instructions and supports the directions with stunning color photos. It is more a class in a book than just samples of someone's work. I really like that it teaches more than showcases. You will find clever tricks and tips for all sorts of medium such as acrylic, paper, glitter, felt, fabric and buttons. Rather than step by step instructions to create one layout - it shows you how to create an element that can be used on any project. Combining the techniques allow you to take your projects to another level.

Then with each technique, there are multiple examples that show you practical application. I really love this book and would reccommend it to anyone that wants to put more detail in their projects. If you are not a vintage kind of gal - don't fret - the techniques can be applied to any style. That's the cool part!

We Love Our Members Contest is on!!!

Erin issued a great challenge for the first week, and even gave us a little education about design, check it out:

Please read over all the rules and requirements carefully before beginning your challenge for the MAXIMUM points possible!

Basic Weekly Rules:

1. All work must be your own, no sketches allowed unless part of the weekly requirement.
2. All photographs must be your own, this means YOU took them, not just that you own them. Smile
3. Ask questions if you have them.
4. Make sure you upload your photos by the deadline!
5. All participants must have a minimum of 100 forum posts by the END of the contest.
6. Have fun!

For Week One we're going to start things out with some basics of composition.

In general things are more pleasing to the eye when they are asymmetrical. This means that always centering everything can get BORING after a while. I think many of us are familiar with the rule of thirds in photography, basically the composition is broken up into three horizontal sections and three vertical sections, and the lines those create tend to be the most interesting places to have your focal point.

This is true for photographs, paintings, and our intended medium, scrapbook pages! If you'd like more info about the rule of thirds, here's an article from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds.

In addition to the rule of thirds, hierarchy is important in composition. We usually just call this clustering and layering. Smile The idea is to visually organize things into groupings and subgroupings- layer and cluster! Smile

Another way to organize a composition is through color. As scrapbookers we wield color as a weapon most of the time without even realizing it! Pay more attention as you are pulling things together, see how you interpret color in your work, other peoples' work, and the world around you.

The last thing to talk about this week is visual movement. We don't want your viewer to get stuck on only one part of the layout, keep those eyes MOVING! Smile You can do this by physically tying elements together- having them touch, connecting with doodling, etc, or by creating some sort of repitition or unity.

Your challenge:

1. Create a layout where the focal point follows the rule of thirds (make it asymmetrical)
2. Include ONE photo, also using the rule of thirds.
3. Include an example of hierarchy- embelly cluster, paper layering, the way you do your alpha, whatever you would like to use to show hierarchy
4. Unify with color, either a palette, monochrome, complementary, what you think looks good!
5. Keep those eyes moving! Create visual movement.

Here is my example for this week.

As you can see the main focal points fall along the thirds, I clustered for interest, and the colors are all from the same saturation level and tie together. I also used hierarchy of objects by repeating and organizing the clouds on a visual line. The ruffled edge of my daughter's hat draws the eye to the photograph as it mimics the contours of the clouds. I continued the movement of the eye with my vertical title, which pulls to the row of rainbows, then the smile rainbow pulls back up to the journal cloud and to the photograph.

Hello everyone, good Tuesday morning! Have you been to the forum lately??? Yes, the new scrapbooking kit has been revealed and also the new challenges have been revealed as well!

I love a good challenge, and I love looking at what all my DT mates are doing, so if you are a challenge lover like me, come check out our special Challenge Forum to see what everyone is up to. And if you would like some awesome inspiration on how to use the March Scrapbooking kit, you don't want to miss the gallery.

Since I (Eva) am writing this post, I thought I would share about my challenge to entice you to come and play along. So what is it???? Well, if you saw the below post about all the gorgeous handmade flowers, that is basically my challenge. Create a card, layout or a 3D project using handmade flowers. I even shared an awesome link with tutorials on how to make them, so you don't even need to search.

And for ideas, I thought I would share two of my cards I made using handmade flowers. One is stamped and one is made of papers.

Annual Contest
March 1st-28th

Please join us for a four week long contest involving challenges, games and prizes!

Each Monday morning (or late Sunday night) I will issue a challenge based on a design principle, and you will have until Sunday at midnight PST to complete your layout. If you don’t complete a layout, you are out of the contest. Entries will be “judged” by the Design Team and given a score according to the following parameters:

1. Following the challenges directions
2. Photographs
3. Overall composition
4. Success of using design principle

It sounds complicated, but I PROMISE it will be fun! Each design principle will be something easy, most likely it will be things you already do! Digital scrappers are welcome to join in on the fun, but there may be occasion where paper scrapping will be necessary, so be careful to read the challenge outlines each week.

At the end of the four weeks, the participant with the highest score will be our grand prize winner. There will also be a random name draw winner and a weekly winner. There will be games and prizes to go along with the fun all month long!

Make Your Own Flowers!!

Thought I would chat a little about making your own flowers.
Creating these little ribbon flowers are super easy - just cut a pievce of ribbon - I usually use a piece 6-8 inches long. Using your sewing machine or by hand sewing - stitch a straight stitch down the side of the ribbon. Then slide the ribbon down the thread slowly gathering it as you go. Once it is gathered, shape into a circle and stitch the sides togehter. You can then layer a variety of different things inside to add depth to your flower.Another quick, easy way to create a flower embellishment is with punches. I combined two different punches and two different papers. Be sure to bend up the petals to give it some dimension - add a jewel to the middle and walla!!

We appreciate our members at Treasured Scrapbooking so much...without you there'd be no us!!! So today I thought spotlighting some of our member's work would be fun...here we go!

This first layout caught my eye right when it went into the gallery last week...it's by Casey (user name: "Purplbtrfly1"). I just love those cute butterflies and the embellishing as a whole on this layout---fabulous work girl!

Next up is an awesome layout created by Megan (user name: "daisymeh") that is adorable! I love that she got so many pictures on this layout and how she framed out the pictures with brackets and scallops...two of my favorite things! You rocked it Megan!

Kelly (user name: "Kelzpop") created this next card that caught my eye...love the color combination and the way she added some sparkle!

This next layout is gorgeous!!! I can't stop staring at it...just amazing! This was created by Rosangela (user name:"RO PHILIPPSEN")...great work!!

Ok, we have time for one more right? This last layout is by our upcoming March guest designer, Rhonda (user name: "Snap Whiz")...what else can I say but PRECIOUS!!! Love the mist, love the simplicity, love the sewing...love it all!

Happy Valentine's day!!! I know some people think this is a commerical holiday - but I adore the chance to celebrate love - I have a date with the love of my life today - my Nephew Jamie - he is four and makes my heart sing. We will be going to McDonald's for lunch then a trip to Target and JJ Maxx - yes - I know it is TJ Maxx, but Jamie calls it JJ! Do you have any plans for today?

So Valentines is T-minus three days...are you ready?? I have to admit I don't have a gift for my husband yet...gotta get working on that one!!! I do however, have a few cards that I made for a few of my favorite people! I love to celebrate this fun holiday by telling my family and closest friends how much I love them in a handmade card. In this era of email and texting, there's just something refreshing about putting a stamp on an envelope and sending off something handmade to show someone you care! This year I picked up some cute Valentine's Day themed patterned paper and a few heart punches, and I was on my way to creating some super fun and easy V-day cards that I know your friends would love too!

Remember, if you choose to make cards that are a little bulky make sure to add a little extra postage to make sure it makes it to it's destination safely!

Take a little time to send a handmade ANYTHING to a loved one for Valentines day this year...they'll LOVE it!!!

Helmar products at the Treasured Scrapbooking Store!!

I had a chance at CHA to use a full range of the products that Helmar produces, and I can tell you that I was super impressed!! I created a cute little mini book of Aussie foods and used several of the adhesives offered by Helmar, it was great to use the products hands on and learn a few little tips about each. The highlight was meeting Tracy, she is good people!

The good news for you is that Helmar is being carried in the Treasured Scrapbooking store now!!

My favorite product I used at CHA was the Liquid Scrap Dots, they give just a little bit more control over using a traditional pop up, things like more coverage, height
and invisability.

The 450 Quick Dry Adhesive is a must have for everyday scrapping. It is fast drying and dries crystal clear, very easy to work with and creates a lasting bond, no more embellies falling to the bottom of your page protector when you use the 450! Its acid free, machine washable and stainless. It will not damage your photos over the years either. I keep this in my adhesive arsenal at all times!

The last product I would like to share with you is Textured Effects. I am working with this product right now on a mini book. Textured Effects creates a textured finish when applied, depending on what you apply it with. Using a brush to apply will leave the brush strokes, using a sponge will leave a rough raised texture, you have the ability to use any applicator you can think of. You can also add acrylic paints to the medium to create a whole different look. It is acid free and you can use it on paper, wood, metal, ceramics, painted surfaces & glass etc.

I'm hosting another GDT contest for March! The challenge is simple, since the theme of the February Kits is inspired by the beautiful Basic Grey winter release, "Origins", your task is to do a layout or project based around the origins or beginnings of something. It can be your childhood, going off to school, the early days of a relationship, a new baby, whatever YOU feel ties into origins.

The requirements:

Your layout must be based on the origins theme
You must use at least seven flowers (can be handmade, but patterned paper doesn't count)
You must use at least one button and one gem/rhinestone of some kind
You must use at least three patterns of paper (can be included in your flowers)
You CANNOT use a plain CS background (you can use it as support, however)
You need to use at least three photos

I know that's a lot, but I like things complicated.

This layout is due by Midnight PST, February 10th. You must upload to the Treasured Scrapbooking Gallery to qualify.
I got in the spirit and broke my long scrapping dry spell and made this layout using the February Kit- "Dawning Inspiration", and the embellishments add on- "Beginning Brilliance."

It can be ten photos, buttons, tags, flowers, ribbon, etc., whatever your heart desires or you have a ton of and need to use up For my example I used ten different red and white ribbons covering the hearts on my layout. It may not look like it in the photo, but trust me, there are ten different ribbons there. Have fun, can't wait what everyone comes up with!

Eva’s Bird ChallengeIn looking through January holidays, I found that January 5th is a National Birds day, so I bring you my January challenge, which is to create a card, layout or any kind of a project with birds on it. How easy is that???? I created a card with birds on it as an inspiration. Hope you enjoy it.

Julie's White Sale Challenge
This time of year its all about the commercials on TV, LOL, seriously where do they come up with all of this stuff?! Gold coins, Nutrisystem, exercise, sales ect.
I decided to focus on the White Sale that is popular during this time of the year and thats what I based my challenge on.

Its super easy and is very striking, what you ask?

Ginger’s Opposite Lift Challenge
January 24th is Opposites Day, so in honor of this special day ( ) I would like to challenge you to lift a fellow TS scrapper, then take their layout and do the opposite! For example, I lifted the very talented Daisymeh (Megan) and switched it up. I flipped it over and used opposite ends, then used cardstock where she used patterned paper, and used pp where she used cardstock. I used a landscape photo where she used a portrait photo. You can make this as easy or as complicated as you would like -- just try to do the "opposite."

No Place like {Home}

Firstly, let me introduce myself, my name is Morag and I'm so thrilled to have joined the lovely team here at Treasured Scrapbooking.

This month's January Resolutions kit is packed full of patterned papers and embellishments including my favourite subject - tiny houses.

One of my favourite things to do is create a frame for my favourite photos. Quirky shapes and gorgeous papers make much more interesting adornments than boring rectangular frames!

We've had an unusually large amount of snow here in the UK so we've been making the most of it. I managed to catch the kids on the sledge together (a rare thing indeed).

I've cut out a simple house shape from chipboard which is then topped with those wonderful patterned papers to create hills. Notice the ric-rac behind the hills?

How about these cute houses? Who can resist?

Finally, I finished off with the fabulous label and prima flowers all included in the kit. I added my own frosting in the middle of the flowers - I'll show you how in this month's newsletter.

Keep on truckin'!!!

When I opened the January kit I was simply amazed!
Not only was it so much fun to go through, but I realized that this
is a kit that keeps on keepin' on!!!
This kit is JAMMED packed FULL of GOODIES!!!
I was looking through it and realized that I could easily make about 8 projects
using this kit, and to me that's a kit that keeps on truckin'!

I created this layout when I realized that I was to do a blog post this month.
That was after I created 4 other layouts and 4 cards!!! I just pulled out the rest of my
kit and went to town! See what I mean, jammed packed!!!

These are some of my favorite colors to work with so I knew instantly what I wanted
to create with this!

I took these photos one morning while A was on her winter
vacation. The lighting reminded me so much of the sun that I wanted to incorporate that
in my layout somehow!! And I did just that!

If you get the kit, you are going to be amazed!!!

It's a new year and a time to reflect on the past year and plan for the new year. Not everyone makes resolutions every year but most everyone has some thoughts about things they would like to accomplish, things they might want to make a better effort at and things they might want to change, and usually the beginning of each new year is a time when these thoughts come to mind. So we, at Treasured Scrapbooking, are going to go with the flow, and hope that you will join us for the ride! So whether you make resolutions, steer yourself towards a focus or create an Ideal Scene for yourself, we will have challenges for you to complete that will allow you to get them down on paper...and glue, and embellishments, and....well you get the idea :)

Each Design Team member has chosen a resolution of sorts to work on and some of the ideas you will see have something to do with:

You will love the way the Design Team has interpreted the themes above! And as if completing new challenges and new pages or cards isn't enough, there will be prizes too!!!

I thought I would share a couple more things I did with December Kit 1. I absolutely loved the colors and papers in this kit. I'm usually not one to stick with red and green for Christmas colors, so this kit was absolutely perfect for me. These little gift card holders were the easiest things I think I've ever made. I'm all about quick and easy, and these definitely were right along those lines. I took some empty toilet paper holders (you could also use empty wrapping paper tubes and cut them down to size) and cut my pattern paper to 4x6 and wrapped it around the holder. I glued my paper down and also glued one end of my gift card holder so it would not slide out. Then embellish as you wish. They were so fun to make and people who received them absolutely loved them. I also had a lot of fun with my Dumb Santa Hat page. I love these papers and this kit was beyond fun to work with.

December 15th Reveals at Treasured Scrapbooking

I am lucky enough to receive both kits from Treasured Scrapbooking each month, which is ending this month, so I get to create with both! January goes to one kit with several different add on options such as a cardstock add on, a paper add on, an embellishment add on and a mini album add on, trust me, you will LOVE the options! Anyhow like I said I got both kits, and I have created mainly with Kit 1:

This kit is absolutely beautiful! I love the colours and the embellishments are just gorgeous! I love the Kaiser rubons and alphas (and am totally digging the Kaiser packaging!). Here are a few of the projects I made with this awesome kit!

I had so much fun with this kit. The Theresa Collins' die cuts were another fave of mine...so versatile for journaling or for layering on cards or layouts :)

December Guest Design Team Member Contest

Reflections

Its that time of the month here at Treasured Scrapbooking! Time for the Guest Designer contest for the month of December, how cool would that be to hold the GDT spot for the exciting month of December? So we need a great November project to kick off our search, and our fearless leader Erin has come up with a great little recipe for your success :)

So get all of your ingredients, ummm I mean supplies, together and follow the recipe , make sure you dont leave out any of the requirements and maybe, just maybe, you will be the next GDT ;)

You may apply this recipe to either a layout, a card or an altered item.
Your theme is remincent of the season, thankful, thoughtful or reflective.
Include something reflective such as glitter, bling, shimmerz, glimmer mist, a mirror, etc
Tie a ribbon and include it, this way you have tied your thoughts together.
Memories are often layered upon each other, one building upon another, so you must have some layers.
We want to see some journaling, tell us your feelings, and the journaling can be hidden.

Deadline for the December GDT Contest is November 12 at midnight your time.

As GDT you will recieve one of the monthly kits, you will do one layout and a sketch for the 1st reveal on the 1st, and a layout and altered item for the 2nd reveal on the 15th. As a part of the team you will select a Layout of the Day on Fridays, have a chance to submit an item to the newsletter if you want and create a challenge with an example to run for the month. Additionally you would be expected to participate on the board daily and leave praise in the gallery.

Big Changes at Treasured Scrapbooking!

In case you didn't already know, there are big changes afoot at Treasured Scrapbooking. Leslie has decided to sell the store, and I decided to buy it!

From Leslie's post on the boards:

I have some news to share with you...some sad, but some very exciting. I've been doing a lot of thinking over the past few months and I've decided to sell TS. As I'm sure most of you have noticed, I've been having a hard time keeping up with TS the way I used to. Life, my job, family, my mom's health have all taken precedence. And as much as I love TS (it's like my baby!) my heart just isn't in the business side of it anymore. I just don't feel like I have the time to give the site the attention it needs/deserves. Plus, my husband found out recently that he's going to be activated next year (he's in the reserves) in June and he'll be gone for 6-12 months in Baghdad so I'm sure I'll have even less time then. We're trying to get some stuff done around the house and take an early vacay before he leaves.

Anyway, this all started when I was approached a few months ago by someone interested in buying the site. I didn't sell it to this person - I wasn't looking for a buyer - I hadn't even considered selling it before that, but it got me thinking. I kind of took it as a sign that maybe it was time to let the site go. I've just been so stressed over the past year or so trying to get everything done. If I didn't have this dang day job, it would be a different story but the bills need paid and my job is too good to give up.

Which brings me to the good news. I am thrilled to announce that our very own Erin has decided to take over TS!! We are in the process now of getting all the administrative details organized and I'm packing up all the inventory to ship out to her. I have put so much time, love, sweat & tears into building this site. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to take it to where I wanted it to go or where I knew it could go with more time. I write this with bittersweet emotions as it makes me VERY sad to not call it my own anymore...on the other hand, I really need a break. I just know Erin will do a fabulous job in making TS even better and I am just so excited for her! Erin will be officially taking over on Nov. 1 but I have already put the kits/card kit together for November so her first kits will be in December. The Design Team has agreed to stay on for another month to ease the transition and Erin will be posting a Design Team call soon for the new term that will start in January.

I want to thank you all for all the support you've given to me and Treasured Scrapbooking over the past 2 1/2 years. It has been just a pleasure to be a part of such a creative, giving, caring group of ladies. I really consider you all friends and family. And I'm sure you'll all give Erin all the support she needs in getting started in her new endeavor! I will really miss putting the kits together every month and running the site but I'm actually looking forward to getting the chance to scrap again and just be part of the board!! Congratulations Erin!!

I just have to say I have always loved Treasured Scrapbooking, and I am very dedicated to making it a friendly welcoming and inspiring place to hang out! To celebrate all the changes, I am having a sale!!! :) Nothing better than a good sale in my opinion! So for the next week and half (or so) all past kits and online classes are 50% off! October Kit #2

I had so much fun with this kit! I don't often scrap Halloween, but this kit got me in the Halloween mood. I also did a couple of non-Halloween projects with it, so it's VERY versatile!

We don't have many Halloween decorations, so this little sign just makes me happy!

Not only did this kit get me to scrap Halloween, it also got me to scrap a wedding picture. Something that is long overdue for me!

I love the colours in this kit! They were just perfect for scrapping this picture of my baby girl! The little kitty is so cute...just the thing for a 'sitting pretty' layout!
